'Free Topic #1' Loving Vincent - Movie

Loving Vincent (released as Letters of Van Gogh in Latin America) is a 2017 experimental animated biographical film about the life of Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, particularly focused on the circumstances of his death in 1890.

Its development was funded by the Polish Film Institute (Polski Instytut Sztuki Filmowej), and partially through a Kickstarter campaign.

Each of the 65,000 frames is an oil painting made by hand using the same Van Gogh style, created by 115 different painters.

Plot: One year after Vincent van Gogh's death, the mailman Roulin asks his son Armand to personally deliver Van Gogh's last letter to his brother, Theo, after his previous attempts to send it to him had failed. Despite not having appreciated Van Gogh and remembering the incident when the deceased mutilated his ear and gave it to a prostitute, Armand accepts in disgust due to his father's affection for the painter. Postman Roulin acknowledges Van Gogh's mental illness and blames other citizens for ostracizing him and expelling him. He also expresses bewilderment about the cause of Van Gogh's death because, six weeks before he died, Van Gogh sent the postman a letter describing his state of mind as calm and normal.

Production
The film's creators chose to use classically trained painters instead of traditional animators. Welchman stated that he wanted to avoid animators who had "custom styles" and instead opted for people who "were pure oil painters." In total, there were 125 painters responsible for the animation that took 2 years to produce.

The script for the project was based on the works that Van Gogh had painted, which were later modified for the screen. These ranged from simple alterations to reconstructions incorporating different effects of weather or time of day.A total of 65,000 paintings were made, however when finished, the paint was removed with spatulas and the next painting was started, so only 1,000 were the ones survived; of which 800 were sold and the rest used in premieres and special functions.
